Early Childhood Education is not in dispute as being
the stage that lays the foundation for the future education of any individual.
Over generations societies have worked tirelessly to ensure the survival of
their children to adulthood and that these children become productive
responsible members of the society. Parents work tirelessly with hope that
their children bring them pride I the future.
Given the strong interest in Early Childhood, then the
government has the obligation as the custodian of public resources to invest in
this sector to have a future workforce that’s worth relying on in the task of
nation building. This is an area that should be generating a lot of public
interest and activism. Children, who because of developmental limitations
cannot agitate for their rights, should be given a voice through
representatives of goodwill.
The government in its effort to serve the general
public should provide competent personnel to serve the early childhood sector
especially with the coming of the new constitution to oversee the sector. The
private sector has also invested heavily in the lucrative education sector.
Many schools have been set-up to offer education and make returns on capital.
The private schools should ensure the provision of quality service by employing
competent staff and motivating them to give their best to the children.
Parents on the other hand have not been left off the
hook. These are their children and they take primary responsibility over how
their children grow and develop.
Early Childhood in Kenya therefore to be successful
needs a multi-sectoral and total commitment to make it thrive and have a robust
future generation.
